Successful Surgery

Dr. Miller came in to let us know how Emma's surgery went. He said that her PDA was enormous. We knew it was large, but we didn't know it was that big. He told us that he did something he rarely does. He had to put two clips on in order to seal off her PDA. The difference that they typically see after they put a clip on a PDA is a rise of 4 in their diastolic blood pressure. Emma's rose 17! Holey Moley. We hope that this will make a huge improvement on her overall.

Emma will be out of sorts for the next 12 hours, which is good. She needs to rest so her body can heal itself. Unfortunately, after the surgery the doctors noticed that her belly was distended. So they took an X ray to look at her vent tube and they noticed an air pocket in her belly. They are not sure if it is "free air" or not but they don't think so. We will wait and see what happens. Personally in my professional opinion, Emma just needs to pass some gas. We've prayed for pee and poop, now it's time to pray for passing gas.

We're probably going to stay up here in the hospital tonight with Emma and Abigail. We can at least rest a little easier knowing that this surgery is behind us.

We read Psalms 34 and verse 4 and 19 really spoke to us. "I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears"
"A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all"

Pat & Jana,
I read about your blog in TAMU's PrimeCuts and wanted to let you know you and your girls are in my prayers. I went back through your blog and must admit I'm in tears as I type this. I have twin girls, Abigayle and Olivia, born March 22, 2001. (The similarities of names and birthday hit a little too close to home.) I went into labor at 30 weeks and we were in the NICU for 6 weeks and 1 day. Counting every ml that goes in and every gram that hopefully adds on... wow, that's the rollercoaster of the NICU. Been there, done that. Abigail and Emma are in good hands... God's hands. And I pray that one day, you, like I, can look back at the experience and be thankful but also almost unbelieving that that was ever your situation. God bless you and your girls.
