3 Weeks

Jana and I wake up every morning at 2 am and 5:30 am to pump....well I sometimes wake up to help, probably a majority of the time I go right back to snoring and only wake up when everything is done and I need to go put the milk in the fridge downstairs. Our alarm clock is programed for a country music station here in KC and this was the song that was playing at 5:30 this morning.

Today's post is for Reagan Mary Mies.

Here are the words to Alan Jackson's "Sissy's Song":

Why did she have to go
So young I just don't know why
Things happen half the time
Without reason without rhyme
Lovely, sweet young woman
Daughter, wife and mother
Makes no sense to me
I just have to believe

She flew up to Heaven on the wings of angels
By the clouds and stars and passed where no one sees
And she walks with Jesus and her loved ones waiting
And I know she's smiling saying
Don't worry 'bout me

Loved ones she left behind
Just trying to survive
And understand the why
Feeling so lost inside
Anger shot straight at God
Then asking for His love
Empty with disbelief
Just hoping that maybe

She flew up to Heaven on the wings of angels
By the clouds and stars and passed where no one sees
And she walks with Jesus and her loved ones waiting
And I know she's smiling saying
Don't worry 'bout me

It's hard to say goodbye
Her picture in my mind
Will always be of times I'll cherish
And I won't cry 'cause

She flew up to Heaven on the wings of angels
By the clouds and stars and passed where no one sees
And she walks with Jesus and her loved ones waiting
And I know she's smiling saying
Don't worry 'bout me
Don't worry 'bout me
Don`t worry 'bout me

Quick update on Emma, she's gained another 30 grams. She's now up to 1090 grams which isn't good because it's all extracellular fluid that is built up. She's very swollen so they've given her hydrocortisone to try to turn that around. They are putting off the surgery for maybe another week until they can get this under control.

Abigail responded very well to the hydrocortisone she was given and is doing much better on her vent settings and they have put her back on feed at 4ml every 3 hrs. Jana may be able to do kangaroo care today with her. She has been steadily gaining weight and is now at 560 grams or 1lb 4 oz. so we are grateful for that.

Our little girls have been in the hospital now 3 weeks! It seems like a lifetime ago when Jana was admitted into the hospital dilated at 3.

My parents are coming in town this weekend which will be nice because I feel like I haven't seen them in a year.

I found out that Medicaid helps pay the hospital bills for babies that are born under 2 lbs. I'm like a lot of folks out there that think the government has a credit card with no credit limit and they are spending us into a debt that may never be repaid in my lifetime.

However, when it comes to the care of those who can't help themselves, I have no problem watching my tax dollars contribute to their care.

I hope everyone has a blessed Friday and a great weekend.

Happy 3 week birthday sweet Emma and Abigail! In honor of your 21 days in this big 'ole world.....here are 21 things I think it is important for you to know!

The Lord blessed the both of you with two amazing parents whose love for you is infinite.

You will always have an angel taking every step of the way with you, her name is Reagan and she will never, ever leave your side!

The bond between the two of you will never be broken! Always take care of each other!

Each of you is a blessing to so many people. People who do not even know you have prayed for you many times.

The two of you will grow into beautiful, strong, healthy women who will make a difference in the world.

God has a purpose for each of you! Always remember if He brings you to it...He will bring you through it!

When you get older, you must come to Childress, Texas. This is where your parents met and you have to see the place where they fell in love!

When you take your first steps, your parents will cry! That is okay…they are supposed to do that!

When you go off to Kindergarten for the first time, your parents will cry! That is okay….they are supposed to do that and probably will every “first day of school” the rest of your life!

Find the beauty in the simplest things in life.

Never go to sleep without telling your Dad and Mom how much you love them! Even when you are grown!

You will never be too old to hang out with your parents!

When you get ready to graduate and look for a college….look no further than Texas A&M!

Dance in the rain at least one time in your life!

Color with crayons….even when you are an adult!

Laugh as often as possible!

Stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.

When you find the guy you want to marry, make sure he is the kind of man your Dad is…..you will not go wrong if you do!

Be the kind of woman your Mom is. She is the strongest, most loving and passionate woman I have had the honor of knowing!

Keep in touch with friends, no matter how many miles separate you!

Even though I have not met you two yet…(I promise I will one day!) the both of you have a very special place in my heart!

Pat and Jana,

I am so sorry for your loss, but I am so glad that you have your other two girls. You will always have an angel in Heaven looking down on all of you.

Jana I can remember talking to you on facebook not that long ago about yours and our fertility issues. I pray that Abigail and Emma grow up just like our second son Landon is right now. He has an older brother Logan in Heaveb that looks after him everyday. We also do the March for Babies walk every year in Fort Worth in memory of him. As a matter a fact we will be participating in this year in less than 8 hours. Believe me I will be thinking about all of you as I am participating in it.

Stay strong through the roller coaster ride and I will continue to keep all of you in my prayers.
