Sorry so Late in Posting

Sorry to keep so many of you waiting for an update on the girls. We spent the majority of our Saturday at the hospital with Emma and Abigail, and when we arrived home last night, we were completely exhausted. Who would have ever thought that sitting around would wear a person out? I guess with you couple that with little sleep and worry, you just find yourself with little energy left.

Emma is finally tinkling!! I was amazed at the weight that was lifted from my heart when the nurse told us that she had lost 60 grams in two days. Because of the edema caused by the fluid retention, she's has been having difficulty keeping her lungs expanded. This is expected since there is just so much pressure from all the excess fluid. They have moved her back to the oscillator for the time being. She seems to be doing very well on this machine. They will evaluate her tomorrow and see when they think she will be ready for the PDA(heart) surgery.

Abby is back up to 8 mL of milk a day. They will be increasing her caloric intake a smidge by adding HMF to the milk. This just helps add more nutrition to the milk and calories. We are amazed at how well she is doing on her ventilator. They are continuing to ween her down on her pressure, oxygen, and respiratory rate. If she keeps this up, they are talking about extubating her. This means they will take the tube that is down her throat out, and put her on bi-pap. This will allow her to do the work on her own, but the bi-pap will assist her with oxygen periodically at a set rate.

New pics to come soon!!

Great news! It is so awesome when you are able to walk into the NICU and see your little one off of the vent. We are still waiting on Whitley to come off of hers. God Bless you and your family.
