6 Weeks Old

Another week has passed, and with each passing week we become closer to bringing our girls home. They both have had really great "average" days. It's always scary to let our guard down, but with the passing weeks it becomes a little more real that they will be coming home one day.

Abby is weighing 1 lb 12 oz, and I am hopeful that by the end of the weekend she will be at 2 lbs. She is on full feeds which means she eats 15mL of milk with 27 calories added to it at each feeding. She is still up and down on her vent settings, but the docs reassure me that that is not something uncommon for micropreemies. Before we left the hospital last night she had decided to open her eyes wide. It just melts my heart to see those beautiful eyes.

Emma is continuing to do well on her CPAP. On the CPAP they change the piece over her nose from tubes to a mask every 4 hours. When they change this, I am allowed to massage her ears and forehead for a couple of minutes. She seems to love the massages. The past couple of days they have been trying to ween her on her fentanyl drip, but I'm not sure she's liking this too much. Since they've been weening her, her PRN doses of morphine have increased. I'm sure this has something to do with the tubes that are sticking out of her little belly. The plan for next week is to start Emma on feeds and see how she tolerates them. Fingers crossed!!

Happy Mother's Day to you all!!!

Happy Mother's (& Father's) Day..and from the sound of yesterday's report, it sounds like things are going "average", especially for Emma. I am so happy for all of you and will continue praying thanks for all the favorable things that are happening now. It sounds encouraging that Abby is eating more and that Emma will be soon..before you know it they will be little "butterballs". Will keep checking and praying..Fondly, Vonnie

Happy Mothers Day Jana! I'm so excited to get to say that to you! I know there were times when you wondered if you would ever get to celebrate this day and I am happy the Lord made you a mom! :)

I'm glad things are going "average" for the girls. Can you believe they are six weeks old? I'll continue to pray for "average" days for the girls. I'm thinking of you as you celebrate your first Mothers Day! I hope you have a great one.

Love ya!
