It dawned on me today that we haven't updated the blog in quite awhile. I apologize to those faithful followers who are missing the updates. They are doing great. The big news for Abby is that she is off oxygen support as of yesterday. She drifts a little, but has been able to bring herself back without help. While she is doing well at nursing, she still has to be able to take a bottle so when she comes home she can get her multivitamins and extra calories through formula a few times a day. She is still trying to master the skill of sucking, swallowing, and breathing at the same time. This is a common problem for preemies. For the most part she is doing well, but she gets choked quite a bit still.
Emma's big news is that she is in a big crib now. No more isolettes for these girls!!! It's wonderful, because I don't have to look through a port hole to see her sweet face anymore. She is up to 9 mL of milk every 3 hours, and they are allowing us to feed her with a bottle instead of her NG tube. We've been having some difficulties trying to get her ostomy bag to stay secure, but the nurses have had trouble with it due to the fistula being so close to it. These aren't something that they do often, so they've all been putting their heads together to come up with a solution. They've really been doing a great job, and we know Emma is in good hands.
We love to get their weights every night, and my two little ones are about to hit a new pound. Emma is at 3 lbs 15.3 oz, and Abby is at 4 lbs 15.8 oz. We'll keep our fingers crossed for another night of weight gain. We love to see their cheeks filling out, and their little chubby legs.
Just stop...

Oh what wonderful news!! I am so happy that Abby is becoming so "independent"..wow! It won't take her long to learn the tricks of eating...then watch her grow. And Emma in a BIG girl's crib..got to be as exciting as learning to ride her first two-wheeled bike!!! You have just begun to experience those firsts...they never seem to end but are always a joy to experience together. So as I have said before..enjoy every moment. Prayers and fondness, Vonnie
You go girls!!! As they reach their due date I'm sure they'll reach a new accomplishment every day. I was visiting with one of the CJHS cheerleader's grandmother the other day. She said K. weighed 1 lb 9 oz at birth and was in the hospital for 3 months. I told her about your girls. You all are now on her prayer list. K. is an energetic, cute and smart 7th grader. I can't wait to see what your girls are doing in 12 years.
Thanks for the update:-) Sounds like things are going great. I'm so proud of them--and you two, also. They are really growing. Prayers are with you. Have a good week.
I'm so glad that the girls are growing and doing well. I think about them and the both of you daily and have to check in on the blog to make sure all is well. We just got back from a trip to Italy to see my parents and the sites(with my 3 year old and 4 month old in tow), and your blog was the first thing that I checked when I walked in the door.
Thinking about you,

YEAH GIRLS!!! I could not be any happier for you all!! EMMA IN A CRIB?!?!?! Now you can just walk back and forth giving kisses and helping with pacifiers WITHOUT opening up any doors...also, being able to pick up your babies without having to track down a nurse...does it get any better than that?? I am so glad to hear your shower was so wonderful. Let me know when you are ready for some Dixon tacos, we want to bring you some up! Miss you!!
Jeremy, Corinne and Jude
Wait...I just reread your entry...did I read that Abby is no longer on her cannula?? That is unbelievable!!! Less cords for you to have to trip over once you get them home!! :) Congrats!!
