It's been awhile since the last post because we've had so much going on. A couple of weeks ago the girls came down with their first real illness. I say real because I don't consider their prematurity an illness even though they were very sick, and they had one day last year that they threw up, but that was just one day. This time the girls had a low grade fever, and they were vomiting and had diarrhea for about 6 days. We were going threw diapers so quickly that I could hardly keep up. The nights were long but we managed to make it through. It took the girls some time to get back to normal, but they are back to their old selves.
During the time that the girls were sick, we noticed that Emma's hands and mouth kept turning a bluish color. From our time in the NICU we learned that that wasn't a good sign. We first tried putting her in a warm shower to see if maybe she was just cold, but that didn't seem to help any. This had been going on for about 4 hours so we decided to take her to a nearby clinic to make sure her heart and oxygen sats were good. I loaded her up at 7:00, and we were off. They couldn't get an O2 reading on her since she is so small, and the doctor couldn't figure out what the problem was. She recommended that we go to the "ER" at Children's Mercy. This caused mommy some enormous stress. Thanks Audrey for taking the stressed out call!!! I did not have a clue what we were in for. The lady at the receptionist's desk could see Emma's hands were blue so she rushed us back to triage. Thankfully they put the pulse ox on and her sats were great. Instead of sending us out to the waiting room, they put us in a consult room near the nurses station in case something happened while we were waiting. For the next 4 hours Emma slept in my arms until we were finally seen. The doctor looked at her and in less than 10 minutes of examining her and speaking with me said, "I think it might just be mild dehydration." Wonderful!!! We left there at 12:30, and I finally got her to bed around 1:00 a.m. I don't think I slept much of that night. I kept going in her room to make sure she was still breathing. Did I mention this all happened on Valentine's Day? Definitely one I won't forget.
Abby loves giving Emma hugs. She just does it a little too hard. I missed the last picture of them going down.

I am so glad that the girls are feeling better again, being sick is no fun. I can't believe how big they are getting, hard to believe they will be 2 before long!
