A Scarey Hello

Today we went to the NICU to see the girls. For the most part they have been the same as yesterday. Good!! We left for lunch and then returned. While scrubbing in I saw the nurse practitioner heading to Emma's run in a hurried manner. I told Pat to see what was going on, and he peeked through the doorway to see what was happening. He said it looked like her heart rate was dropping, but couldn't really tell. I finished up scrubbing in, and I headed quickly to her room. As I approached the doorway all I could see was my sweet Emma lying blue in her incubator. I stood there in the doorway as tears streamed down my face. Seeing my little one lying there like that was more than I could handle. The respiratory tech started to bag her to help her breath. From the machines I could tell that her rate and oxygen levels were going back up. The nurse came to the door and told us that they were going to pull the curtain and reintubate her. Pat decided that I needed to check on Abby while this was going on. About 10 minutes later they allowed us in, and we were able to see Emma and that she was doing so much better. Her levels were good, and her color was pink again. They aren't exactly sure why this happened, but they think that her tube might have been clogged or that she clamped down on the tube. We are just so thankful for the staff who continue to keep a close eye on our girls everyday. These people are truly a blessing.

I'm sorry you had that scare. Our children can tug our hearts so hard....when they hurt, we hurt. I'm so thankful you are in a wonderful place with many great nurses and doctors.

I cannot imagine the roller coaster of emotions you are on, but I do know these little girls will grow up to be beautiful, smart, caring and strong women. Your love and faith inspires me each and every day! I cannot wait to see you this summer! Love ya!
