We don't have a firm date for Emma's homecoming. They are trying to get her up on her calories, but they think she may not be tolerating it. From her diapers they have noticed that her poo is a bit "pastey" looking. This could be due to a couple of different things. It could be water loss, which means she isn't able to absorb the higher calories. Or, it could be that she needs the higher calories, and we just don't have her high enough yet. To figure out the problem they did blood work to check her electrolytes this morning. I'm sure they have the results back by now, but you can't call during shift change so I haven't heard anything yet. Emma has been quite fussy lately, but the NNP told me from her experience "Gut Babies" are often very fussy for sometime so we will have to be even more diligent with Emma's care at home to ensure that her fussiness is truly fussiness and not her getting sick.
As for Abby I weighed her yesterday, and she is 7 lbs. 15.2 oz. It's hard to imagine that she is practically 8 lbs. She is doing well, and only wakes to eat at night about every 4 hours. We've worked it out so that Pat feeds her around midnight, and then I feed her around 4. This has allowed both of us to get a good 7 hours (give or take) of sleep. I'm sure we will have to make some adjustments when Emma comes home. Abby is beginning to smile at us periodically, and it's obvious that these smiles are not the spontaneous ones she used to have.
We appreciate every one's offer to help with the girls. Due to the girls previous lung issues, apnea spells, and choking issues while eating, we can only leave the girls with those who are Infant CPR trained. With that being said we appreciate all of you who have taken the class in order to babysit, and one day I hope to be able to use you all. We'll let everyone know when Emma's coming home when we find out.
Just stop...
