It's been a year since Reagan Mary Mies was born. I thought I'd repost my thoughts on that day.
I wrote this post at 11:16 am March 22, 2009:
God has graced us with another day. The doctors came in this morning and said they were amazed at Jana's uterus. They were all sure that she would deliver on Friday. They checked all of the baby's heartbeats and they are all doing great.
We got a visit from the neonatal doctor that will be evaluating our little angels if they decide to come out early. He said that they won't try to revive the babies unless they make it to 23 weeks. He feels that we really need to make it to 25 weeks in order to have a better chance for premature triplets to survive.
Even though Jana's water has broken, baby A is still hanging on.
Our pastor came in last night and said a wonderful prayer for Jana and I and our three little angels. We pray to be strong and have courage and peace with this process, because we know it is out of our hands.
We have the nicest nurse here named Kelsey that gave Jana a "spa" treatment, washing her hair in a haircap, rubbing lotion on her back and legs "mango" for the women that care about those things. Then she brushed her hair out and even offered to braid her hair. We are blessed to be where we are at in dealing with this situation.
We watched most of the tournament games on Saturday and I think this is the first time the Aggies were in the tournament and I wasn't glued to the TV. It's amazing how your priorities change.
A big thank you to all the prayers and positive thinking that is going on out there. We are at 22 and 4/7 weeks today (that's how the NICU guys talk).
I'll keep you updated.
It's amazing now looking back how you never know what life is going to hand you. I wrote this post that same evening after our first daughter, Reagan was born:
A beautiful little angel girl was born today at 7:23 pm. Her name is Reagan Mary Mies. She is loved and was held by her parents until God took her into his arms at 9:24 pm. She weighed 1 lb 5 oz and measured 11 inches. Her little hands, arms, and face were adored by all.
Jana has been incredible through this whole experience. Our hope was picking up this morning as we made another day without incident. Around 3 pm, she began feeling strong contractions and they developed into labor. Her cervix dilated to 10 cm and we new that little Reagan was finally on her way into this world.
Unfortunately, in order to keep the other two babies safe, Jana was not able to take any pain medication and had to deliver naturally. Right after Reagan entered this world they gave Jana a big dose of magnesium to stop any contractions she was having. Magnesium of course wipes you out and makes you feel like you have the flu. Jana is stronger than any human being should have to be and I thank God every day to have found such a wonderful woman.
After delivery and things had quieted down, the doctors did an ultrasound on the twins and found that they were still pretty high up in Jana's uterus with a lot of amniotic fluid. Now we continue to pray that they will stay inside for at least another 7 days to give them a chance at survival. It was a miracle that they didn't deliver at the same time and we thank God for the hope we have.
To Reagan: Your mom and dad love you so much and know that you are in a wonderful place right now surrounded by love. We were so lucky to get to watch you grow up on ultrasounds and then to spend our moments here on earth with you was amazing. You're mom would always smile when she could feel you kicking and would call me over to her to touch her stomach. You are such a strong woman and held on as long as you could. You are beautiful little angel and we know that God has taken you into his loving arms.
A couple of months later we heard this song on the radio when the alarm went off in the morning.
It's still hard to think about Reagan even a year later. We remember her and honor her on this day. We thank God for this short time that he allowed us to spend with such a special person. We know that she is her sisters' guardian angel, looking out for them and smiling while in the arms of her namesake Mary Mies.
Just stop...

There are no words. I love you guys.
beautiful, smiling through the tears
The Lord blesses us by allowing people to come into our lives for a reason. Our lives become better from knowing them, even if for just a short amount of time. Your family will always hold a special place in my heart and I consider myself lucky to call such an amazing couple, my friends. Love you much!
just beautiful
Reagan Mary couldn't be in better hands than in Aunt Mary's...You can be assured that both of them are watching over all of you.
I hope you enjoyed Easter with your two other special angels.
